Starting Your Blog

Starting Your Blog

Starting your blog and building your initial audience is one of the most tricky blogging parts you’ll ever need to encounter. Where do you start? How do you let the world know about your new website and how do you make people interested?

First think very carefully about the overall concept of your blog. Who would you like your audience to be? What’s your blog’s focus and goal? What do you have to say and show that is unique and catchy? Put it all on the paper and call it your business plan. It will help you to stay organised and focused in the future.

Choose your blogging platform. I am using Blogger but you should read pros and cons of Blogger vs. Wordpress and choose the one that is most appealing to you.

Now you need to choose your blog name. It can be absolutely anything but it’s better for it to be not just Trees and Candy (unless that’s exactly what you are blogging about) but something meaningful and descriptive of your content. I gave my blog my own name because I already had contacts in the industry and wanted people to know that this new blog belongs to me.

Right after you chose blog name and created your page on one of the platforms it’s a very good idea to buy your own domain name. For example, I started by having www.juliashutenko.blogspot.com and changed it to www.juliashutenko.com Trust me, this is very important if you want people to immediately treat your new blog seriously.
And after all of the above is done start producing quality content, post regularly and often. Let all social media channels know about your page. Invite your friends to spread the word and try researching whether there are any relevant events that you can attend. Networking is the key to success in blogging. Therefore, make your business cards, put on your heels and go concur this industry!

Love this post! When I first started blogging I had no idea what I was doing haha so this is so useful for beginner bloggers! Another tip I would add is to think carefully and creatively about the layout and design of your blog as it’s the first thing people see and first impressions are pretty important especially for blogs!

Great tips! I’m thinking about updating my blog look so it can appeal to more than just one niche like it is right now and then just having a separate blog for my beauty company that focuses just on it…thanks!
